Which I think is probably why he is so odd: is not much the actor but rather he use a specific incarnation of luthor that is kinda goofy and clash a lot with the tone of the film and isnt waht people expect, which let be honest is part of the comon compliant about the whole sydner trilogy: it hold to a very specific view of the chararter rather than a 'comon view' that everyone expect and it kinda sorta skew everything about it. I think zuckenberg work well depending on what this incarnation of luthor means, luthor often range from super corrupt capitalist to mad scientist to human ubermech(like batman but replacing edginess with ego), in this case it seen luthor feel closer to silver age incarnation in which he is a mad scientist with filmsy reason to go against superman rather than atacking for interrupting is buissness, after all luthor barely care much about is buissness or money in the money, instead of using alien tech and substance to create a weapon draw waaaay more as luthor-as-mad-scientist.
